Born in Mthatha, Solethu is one of 3 siblings, all pursuing highly sought careers. His own qualifications include an Honours degree majoring in Accounting, Taxation, Management Accounting and Auditing from the University of South Africa, he also completed a Programme for Management Development certification at the Gordon Institute of Business Science.

Starting out his career at KPMG, Solethu has consulted for a wide range of companies, mostly within the Financial Services sector; such as The Industrial Development Corporation (The IDC), The Standard Bank of South Africa Limited and Nedbank Limited. In 2012, he continued to pursue a career in Internal Auditing with the Absa Group – member of Barclays Bank; with a strong focus in Finance and Regulatory Compliance. By the time he joined Standard Bank of South Africa in 2013 as the Financial Crime Risk Assessment Manager, he was ready to increasingly solidify his experience in risk management, development and implementation of strategy. After only serving a few months in this position, his portfolio was expanded to that of Business Risk Intelligence Manager, focusing on Business Intelligence and Predictive Analytics through the efficient use of big data; for the full operational risk environment across the Group. “For the greater part of my involvement in these roles I have commuted frequently into Africa, understanding and developing strategies to pro-actively mitigate risk across the Group’s African operations. In this time my love for Africa was borne”.

Solethu has extensive experience in auditing and risk management having consulted and worked at one of the big four auditing firms and two of the big four banking institutions in South Africa respectively; where he developed a “big picture” understanding of effective stakeholder management, pro-active risk management, as well as the development and implementation of strategy across a variety of environments and geographies.
